Selecting and applying business analysis techniques to be used on an IT solutions development project is influenced by the methodology used to develop the solution. This advanced course is designed to expose the student to the array of techniques used when the Agile Development methodology is being used. The techniques to be explored are those used for Requirements Gathering (e.g. User Stories), Requirements Analysis (including completeness), Requirements Elicitation (including clarification & prioritization), Requirements Modeling (e.g. Use Case Diagramming), Requirements Specification (i.e. technology-influenced translation), Requirements Documentation (i.e. formal standards), Requirements Management (e.g. Classification, Governance, Version control and Configuration Management), and Solution Assessment and Validation. Throughout the course case studies, tools and exercises are used to guide the student through the best use of business analysis techniques applied to Agile approaches such as Product Backlog, self-organizing teams, user stories, scrums, sprints, daily work-out-sessions, emergence and face-to-face interviews.
The goal of the course is to instill confidence within the student regarding where and when to best apply any given method or tool. Since the course is focused on the Agile methodology the student should have a basic understanding of Agile prior to attending. Pre-reading material on Agile will be distributed to the class to be read before attending.
