    Round Table Details

It has become increasingly evident that business rules are only a part of the whole puzzle of business logic in BPM, SOA, and Business Architecture. The recent book by James Taylor, “Smart Enough Systems” confirms the long advocated position of Barbara von Halle that the business is interested in managing business logic at the decision level: now this eminent panel of minds explore and explain the importance of Decisions, their relationship to business rules, and to the other important disciplines, and why we are seeing the emergence of a new discipline, Business Decision Management (BDM) as a critical component in BPM, SOA and Business Architecture.

    Featured Speakers

    Larry Goldberg

Larry has over thirty years of experience in building technology based companies, focused on rule-based technologies and applications. Prior to joining KPI as Managing Partner, he was Senior Vice President of Sapiens Americas, Inc., which he joined when he sold his company, PowerFlex Software Systems, Inc to Sapiens. Larry is co-author of “The Business Rules Revolution” (Happy About, 2006), Editorial Director of “The Business Rules Newsletter”, and co-chair of the Brainstorm Business Rules Symposium track.

    James Taylor

James is co-founder of a California-based enterprise decision management (EDM) service firm Smart (Enough) Systems LLC, that works with clients to automate and improve the decisions that underpin their day to day business. Taylor has more than 20 years experience in using technology to build more effective software, from CASE tools and automated methodologies, to R&D at PeopleSoft, to web community software, business rules and analytics. The gap between most "dumb" applications and those smart enough to be useful can be bridged with today's technology and Smart (Enough) Systems LLC helps customers cross that gap. Taylor is the author, with Neil Raden, of Smart (Enough) Systems: (Prentice Hall, 2007). You can contact him at james[at]smartenoughsystems.com.

    Barbara von Halle

Barbara is the founder of Knowledge Partners, Inc., a company leading clients through successful business rule projects for many years. As a pioneer in Business Rules, Barb received the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award in 1995 from the International Data Management Association. As a journalist, she was a regular columnist Database Programming and Design magazine for over 5 years and co-authored several books. The most recent book, Business Rules Applied (co-authored with a KPI business rule team) was an unexpected finalist for the Software Development Jolt Award!

    Brian Stucky

Brian Stucky is Vice President of Knowledge Management at InScope Solutions, where he brings nearly two decades of experience designing and implementing business rule systems to his role in directing the company’s KM practice.  In addition to starting two companies that specialized in the development of intelligent systems, Mr. Stucky works closely with a number of business rule vendors and speaks internationally at conferences and professional events.

    Tom Dwyer
