    Overview

One of the greatest promises of BPM is transparency into processes. Transparency, in terms of BPM, is the ability to view all the steps in a process and where a certain transaction or case resides in the flow of that process. A key initiative in the federal government is to create a government-wide culture of transparency, collaboration, and participation - all concepts that BPM enables.

TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR AN OPEN GOVERNMENT

However, one of the major challenges with trying to implement large initiatives - such as the Transparency and Open Government initiative - at a large organization like the Federal Government is to prevent the resulting lack of integration, collaboration, and synergy that usually occurs from trying to design, implement, and manage anything this complex. A systems approach - such as espoused by BPM and Business Architecture - is a proven way to look at how the best ideas that emerge out of this effort can come together within the existing government system to collectively produce the desired outcomes of a transparent and open government. The goal is to create synergies that result in a system that is greater than the sum of its parts. This is an issue for architecture and enterprise process modeling and management.

BrainStorm DC will feature thought leaders from the Federal Government and Private Sector to share innovative ideas on applying management disciplines, architectural principles and enabling technologies to deliver a transparent, open government that is more accountable to its citizens.

Conference presenters will share case studies of creating improved methods for sharing information and measuring processes, widely communicating the measurement results, and continuously improving the transparency and openness of the government.
