BPMS Watch: BPMN's Three Levels, Reconsidered

Several months ago, I got an urgent request from OMG – the organization responsible for BPMN and other BPM standards – to give a short blurb I had written a permanent URL on my website.  The...

An Open Letter to the BPM Community

By: Gregg V. Rock, Editor & Founder, BPMInstitute.org
    Thursday August 16, 2007

Recently BPMG, a UK based BPM organization, ceased operations resulting in a number of its member services and client engagements being indefinitely suspended or cancelled. Over the past several weeks I have received numerous calls and emails from the community related to these recent events.

Having now had a chance to speak with several former BPMG executives, employees, customers and partners of BPMG - I feel compelled to send this communication to the BPM Community at large in order to:

    1. Offer assistance to any individuals or organizations that have been adversely affected by BPMG.

Please request assistance if you or your organization had:

      • Contracted and paid for training services, but never received those services
      • Purchased on-line memberships to BPMG, which is now non-existent
      • Contracted and paid for marketing services, but never received those services
      • Started or Joined BPM Chapters, which no longer exist
      • Completed requirements to become a BPMG Trainer, which you can no longer offer
    2. If you are aware of other individuals/organizations that have been affected, please forward them this letter. We will do what we can to assist.

    3. Eliminate any confusion regarding BPMInstitute.org and BPMG.
BPMInstitute.org is not now, nor ever was, affiliated with BPMG. I've heard some liken BPMG to an on-line buyers club. Our mission has been, and continues to be, the facilitation of knowledge sharing amongst BPM professionals, as well as providing long-term insight to our members on the latest development and advancements in BPM.
    4. Confirm the strength of the BPM marketplace.
A recent call into our office came from a disgruntled BPMG Member, wondering if we are "just another BPMG". I personally assured him that we were not and that we're here to stay. Based on the global 2000 investment priority in BPM, the future remains bright for both BPMInstitute.org and the BPM marketplace.
    5. Re-affirm BPMInstitute.org's commitment to the BPM Community.
BPMInstitute.org continues to enjoy tremendous growth in numbers and activity, featuring:
      1. Over 33,000 Members worldwide
      2. Over 2,000 new Members per month
      3. The industry's most robust BPM Training curriculum
      4. Expanded member services to support your quest to become a process-centric organization

On a personal note, the thing that I find most disappointing is that the actions taken by certain individuals in the BPMG organization and the events that transpired clearly did not have the best interests of BPMG's members, employees or the BPM Community in mind. I suspect you will also see many of the former principals of BPMG launching new offerings in the near future. As with any partnership or supplier relationship I would highly recommend you conduct the proper due diligence before entering a new engagement.

In keeping with our role as your trusted advisor, BPMInstitute.org will keep you updated as this situation continues to unfold, including recommendations on new market offerings.

    Best regards ,
